Pre-Swansea blog announcement and…
...just a few comments instead.
Once again, I’ve just not got the time to ‘bang
out’ a pre-match blog. Sorry and, hopefully, I’ll be ‘back on track following
the international break.
But on the game…
1.
Will it go ahead? If so, it’ll
be flippin' soggy under foot and the winds are supposed to be horrendous!
2.
If it does go ahead, although I
think we’ll see a changed side to some degree just 4 days after our
last game (a great 7-0 win by the way!) and before players fly off to play for
their respective countries; it’s in Pep’s nature to ‘go for’ all competitions,
resources permitting, and why not; with a Wembley, semi-final now beckoning?
3.
I think we’ll get through.
On this potential transfer ban which, if it
happens and we’re likely to find out in the coming days apparently, I personally think it’ll
be devastating for us.
Why? Well with new financial deals at City recently in
place, I honestly thought we’d REALLY 'push on' next season and strengthen the team / squad
so much so it would be almost impossible for most teams to touch us. Also, am I
alone in-thinking that, despite the wonderful squad we have, we still-do-need…
-
An additional, back-up keeper?
-
An additional right-back?
-
An additional left-back?
-
Possibly an added central defender?
-
A defensive midfielder?
-
An additional striker, although
I can see some people thinking that to be a luxury?
Well…one Blue I’ve already spoken to this
afternoon thinks that we’ll be fine if the ban comes in and, therefore, we don’t need any of those!
But with other teams (apart from Chelsea of course and for now with THEIR ban sticking) bound to spend
big in the summer; I think this would be a massive blow for us!
The only way it won’t be, in my humble,
is-if Aro can ‘do it’ on the bigger stage if needed next season; that we don’t
have any injuries to central defenders if (when) we see the back of Vinny in
the summer, that Mendy stays fit to rotate with Zinchenko and that Walker finds his form / Danilo
stays fit also.
Additionally – and very importantly – that we
manage to get Yangel Herrera or Douglas Luiz back from
loan and into the squad next season...and that they’re the ‘real deal’ to take the
pressure off Fernandinho (who will be 1-year older when the ban is finally lifted). Also, currently playing in the EDS; wasn't Claudio Gomes supposed to be a really good, defensive midfield prospect that we signed from PSG's B team?
Oh…and that Sergio & Jesus stay ‘fit ‘n’
firing’ also.
But, for now, we’re the team to beat and we’ve
drawn quite well, I would say, in the quarter finals of the Champions League;
Spurs being that team.
C’mon City!
