…following an ‘off night’ in the Champions League on Wednesday. However, I expect another bruising encounter tomorrow afternoon similar to the last time we visited Cardiff.
A few words on our midweek defeat.
Circumstances meant that I was only able to
watch the first half and from what I saw then we were fairly poor, despite our
Manager’s comments in this afternoon’s press conference to the contrary. I personally was quite vexed at Ilkay Gundogan who, for me, went ‘missing in action’ and left a lot of the attacking
midfield work to David Silva. Lyon, for
their part, played well and certainly pressed / ‘did a number on us’ from what
I saw.
There has been a lot to say about the City
fans on the night and in the media too and I’m certainly not gonna to fall into any trap of talking
about the low attendance [compared with our capacity] - thanks
to all non-City fans for noticing / taking the time to comment over and over
again – but I agree somewhat about the lack of effort from our loyal fans who
turned up on the night about the lack of atmos; with more on that from me in a future
article (hopefully in the not-too-distant future).
And with scuffles between City & Lyon fans outside of the ground
along with one Lyon numpty doing a Nazi salute inside the stadium; all in all, it was a bad night
to forget I’d say.
Moving on then and a quick, ‘get it out
there’ posting…
v Cardiff City.

Predicted line-up, subs and outcome:
(Number correct
from starting line-up in the last game: 9/11
Fluid 4-5-1 / 4-3-3:
____________________Aguero____________________

Ederson has
the gloves.
I would
think we’ll see a central-2 partnership in defence of Aymeric & Nicholas;
Fabian (I am a little
annoyed at some over-blown comments I've heard about his error on Wednesday from a
usually-solid player) & Kyle take the flanking positions at the back and either side of
those.
Fernandinho
to protect those when needed and the attacking 4 ahead of him should look like Leroy,
David, Bernardo & Raheem.
Serg to
come back to head-up all of those.
Aro is
the back-up stopper; John, Vinny and, I think,
the returning Danilo make up the defensive replacement options from the bench. Ilkay,
Riyad, & Gabriel make up the attacking subs from ‘the 7’.
Notable
absences:
-
Benjamin Mendy – Apparently, it’s now a bruised ankle
issue keeping him out and with no return date.
This is more like the
nearest we can get to our ‘A Team’ and, so, I’m absolutely fine with that
possible selection!
Result?
Thick shin pads on and ear protectors for our players who might be anywhere near their manager
but, overall, our quality should see us come back from Wales with all-3 points.
Last season’s,
corresponding pre-match prediction and result…
Prediction: N/A
Result: N/A
Expected weather conditions during
the game: More of the miserable, heavy, heavy rain we’ve had in recent days; accompanied by more flippin’ winds just to make everyone feel even MORE wet & miserable! 13C is the highest temperature fans & players can expect, for what it’s worth mentioning. Welcome to Autumn in Britain…
